Application engineering

Software Development Intern

Learn how requirements become maintainable application code through design, implementation, testing, review and documentation.

Track overview

What this learning path covers.

This track introduces a disciplined software-development workflow. Depending on the approved learning project, learners may work with TypeScript or another suitable language, simple APIs, data models, validation, automated tests and version control in a supervised environment.

This is an expression-of-interest track. Final scope, schedule, supervision, selection and availability are confirmed only for an approved internship engagement.

Focus areas

Topics you may explore.

  • Requirement breakdown and solution design
  • Readable code and data modelling
  • API, validation and error-handling fundamentals
  • Testing, version control and technical documentation

Learning outcomes

Capabilities to develop.

  • Break a small requirement into testable implementation tasks
  • Write code that handles invalid input and failure states explicitly
  • Use branches, commits and review feedback responsibly
  • Document setup, behaviour and known limitations for another developer

Supervised practice

Examples of learning activities.

Activities use approved labs, sample data or specifically authorised environments. They are adapted to the learner’s current ability and the available supervision.

01

Implement a scoped feature in an approved training application

02

Design a small data model or API contract and review edge cases

03

Add automated tests for expected and invalid inputs

04

Investigate a defect, identify its cause and document the fix

Useful foundations

What helps you get started.

You do not need to know everything already. Use these foundations to show how you have prepared and where you want guided practice.
